Hill Country, open sky, 40 minutes from downtown Austin
Texas Ranch
Eighty acres of Hill Country, preserved since 1949 and shared with people who love it.
Hills, trails, creek beds and ponds, flat fields and pasture, deep woods and big live oaks.
Lazy Dog Ranch has been in our family since 1949, bought and kept for one reason: to preserve a piece of the Hill Country for the wildlife that lives on it. Eighty acres, forty minutes from downtown Austin, and still exactly that.
The land changes every few hundred feet: hills and complex terrain, trails, creek beds, ponds when the weather fills them, flat fields, open pasture, wooded ground and large live oaks. We share it, occasionally, with people who want that variety for a drive, a film or a quiet stay. At night there is no glow from town. You can see the stars.
A working ranch, open by arrangement
We host a small number of events, films and stays each year, scheduled around the herd, the weather and the land itself. Spring and autumn are the best driving months: firm ground, long golden evenings, and a creek with water in it. Summer brings dust and heat that some tests want. Winter is quiet, clear and cold at night.
Every visit is hosted. We walk or drive the course with you before anything runs, mark hazards, set the ground rules, and stay on the property throughout. What we provide is the ranch itself: the land, water and power at the cabin, and a member of the family on site. Tents, catering, sanitation, recovery vehicles and crew are yours to bring.
